Dragon 3: air strike started on LZ

16 0723 Lancer: Airstrike is over
17 0723 Lancer: Artillery started firing on LZ
19 0725 Lancer: one 500 lb dud between XT152452 and XT153454
20 0735 Dragon 33 - inform Bde that Artillery and Airstrike is complete also gave location of 3/4 Cav
21 0740 Dragon 3 - aircraft are still on station and have 20mm if needed
22 0743 Viking 6: Aircraft going back to home base, we don't have 20mm support
28 0817 Saber Bravo 65:  Inform Virginia elements there are two trenches in road impossible to pass at XT431232
29 0826 Dragon B6: B Co below LZ found old tunnel and bunker, investigated and left
30 0835 Dragon A6: A Co found 7 frame houses with bomb shelter beside each one, one had cooking utensils inside it, looked recently used.
33 0920 Dragon B6 reports negative contact with sampan
35 0943 Dragon B6 found tunnel system at end of island also fresh digging XT161449
38 1023 Dragon A6 found trench at XT160464, runs west 30 meters knee deep to waist deep, has not been used for long time
39 1035 Dragon A6: trench system at XT160464 runs west 30 meters and B52 bomb crater breaks it up for 30 meters then runs for 100 meters, overgrown.
43 1150 Maj Shelton:  Probably will be no operation day after tomorrow due to 2/14 commitment as Brigade Reaction Force and expansion of perimeter.  Also probably will not receive Cav Platoon due to fact we have had it every time so far and other Bn/s have not used.
    Through 1400 hrs, the entries involve reporting the movements of the units, neg contact, and pickup LZs
55 1420 Dragon A6:  A Co found 2 booby traps around treeline in pos BLUE, will blow after A Co loads
57 1425 Dragon A6:  A co reports 2 booby traps at XT180468, two bottles with explosives inside with a trip wire leading from bottle.  Will blow them before A Co is airlifted
60 1438 Dragon A6 reports that booby traps were disarmed and Dragon 2 will bring them in
71 1856 Bde: Special Forces have 2 personnel from the S-2 section that would like to go on tomorrows operation.
74 1806 Bde: Regarding your request for the use of the range, it will be OK to use the right and left corners of it and shooting in to the banks.
76 2015 Patrol 1 leaving; 2035 Patrol 3 leaving
77 2035 Patrol 1 had a small accident, one man fell in hole, has sprained ankle and can not proceed on it.  Patrol is about 400 meters out in front of friendly front lines.
81 2130 Patrol 1 - have loaded patient in to aid vehicle, proceeding with mission.
82 2130 Patrol 2 in posn
84 2155 S-3 t o65th Engrs: Be advised that Patrol 1 is going back through the friendly front lines and continuing their mission.  Pass the word to your elements in the line so that they know that our patrol is out there and don't shoot at them.

Airstrike completed, Arty fire complete on Dragon LZ's.  Sabre B 500 m N of psn BLUE

27 0745 1st lift of 2d elem of 2/14 in the air
31 0804 A/2/14 on ground at LA APPLE neg contact
33 0814 Aerial observer fm lookout 9 rpts 2 holes at XT231231 3 ft wide, 6 ft deep.  Element fr Trang Bang dispatched to repair road
36 0835 A/2/14 loc 154456, loc 2 houses, frames, w/adjoining bomb shelters.  1 house w/cooking utensils, neg contact.  Being destroyed.
41 0925 4/9 rpts no fire on LZ but trailing aircraft received undetermined nbr of SA rds over obj XRAY, 200 ft off coord at approx 40 knots
44 0950 B/2/14 reports tunnel system coord 161449.  Checking out.  Also fresh digging in area.  Believed to be graves.  Further checking.
46 1015 B/4/9 found 1250 kilos rice, 1000 kilos dumped in river, will bring out 250 kilo bag
47 1023 A/2/14 loc trench at coord XT160460, runs east to west 30 meters long 2 to 4 ft deep
48 1040 Road reopened at 1040
49 1050 A/2/14 south of GREEN.  B Co still moving on S-R trench coord 160464, runs east to west 30 meters w/bomb crater in middle.
50 1055 4/9 Arty LNO fired on from coord XT084533.  Arty called, results unknown.
51 1055 A C&C ship spotted a cache of some kind, B/4/9 on way to check it out, loc of cache XT063530
55 1140 Fm G2 3d Corps reports at 1040 hrs an F-100 accidentally dropped a 250 lb bomb at XT 056562.  Bomb unarmed.  Did not explode.
63 1252 4/9 gunship spotted a bunch of grass moving along ground which appeared to be a man camouflaged.  Fired on it and it stopped moving.  1 KIA poss.
67 1327 4/9 C&C ship fired upon what appeared to be a tree moving in the stream at 071525.  Tree made it across but observer feels that man pushing tree was KIA.  1 VC KIA poss.
70 1410 A/2/14 is securing pickup zone for the extraction of B Co, B Trp 3/4 Cav is helping
74 1421 A/2/14 loc 2 bottles of explosives at XT 180468.  Being evacuated
99 2045 2/14 patrol 1 left at 2035, patrol 2 left at 2035, patrol 1 had accident 1 man fell in hole and sprained his ankle.  The patrol is returning him to bunker line and going back out.
117 2305 2/14 patrol 1 in psn.  Neg sitrep.
