Patrol #2 C 2/1 Inf to S3 2/14:  Reported leaving position.  Capt Murphy told patrol not to leave position until the time stated in the patrol plan.

From Co C 2/1 to S3 2/14:  Co C 2/1 is relieving our elements on the bunker line.

7 0457 From Patrol #1 Co C 2/1 Inf to S3 2/14: Patrol #1 has left position.
9 0524 Co C 2/1 has taken over Co C 2/14 bunker line.
16 0615 Co C 2/1 Inf took responsibility for Co A 2/14 & Co C 2/14 perimeter defense at 0540 hrs.
17 0616 Artillery commenced TOT's on groups WIMPY, POPEYE & OLIVE OIL.
18 0625 Recon Plat arrived at release point at 0625 hrs.
19 0625 A/1/5 (M) also crossed SP 0625 hrs with Recon Plat.
20 0628 Hv Mortar Plat arrived Release Point at 0628 hrs.
21 0629 A/1/5 (M) approaching LD at 0629 hrs.
22 0630 Delayed Entry:  Bn Command Group departed Bn CP area at 0545 hrs enroute to SP for today's S&D operation FRAGO#20.
27 0646 From Hv Mortar Plat Ldr to 3: (Monitored) Am in position and ready to support.
29 0650 Airstrike conducted on Bde Objective 1 & Bde Objective 2 from approx 0630 to 0655 hrs.
30 0700 (Monitored) 10 minute prep fired on Bde Obj 1 (on order of Bde Cmdr) commenced at 0700
31 0703 Co C crossed Phase Line Silver at 0730 hrs.
32 0708 From 3 to A/1/5 (M):  (Monitored) You can move out a little faster.  Co A/1/5: Acknowledged.
36 0735 S3 to A/1/5 (M): (Monitored) Make sure that you keep your right flank tied in with C/2/14 Inf.
38 0800 Entac element on security mission for Philippine Survey Party leaving OAHU Base at 0800 hrs.
41 0818 From A/1/5 (M) to S3:  (Monitored) A Co 1/5 (M) told S3  2/14th Inf that regarding that fire it was his element that it was his element that fired at something they thought they had seen on a tree.
42 0838 A/1/5 (M) informed S3 2/14 that one of his APC's had thrown a track and will have to leave it behind for repair.
44 0848 S3 Instructed A/1/5 (M) to dismount troops and proceed on foot because vegetation is too thick for the tracks to go through.
45 0952 Bn CO to A/1/5 (M) (Monitored) It appears your left element is within about 50 meters of breaking through the rubber in the clearing.
49 0916 C/2/14 to A/1/5 (M): (Monitored)  C Co 2/14 Inf requested that A Co 1/5 (M) hold up for a while, while Co C elements catch up.  C Co elements are in vic where they were hit during the last operation and are searching area thoroughly.
50 0917 S3 to A/1/5 (M):  (Monitored) Make sure that A/1/5 (M) and C/2/14 keep visual contact.  A/1/5 Mech informed S3 that their elements have visual contact with C Co 2/14 Inf.
52 0923 S3 to 33:  Have found compass that was lost by wounded man on last operation behind a bunker vic coord XT 155468.
54 0950 Bn CO to S3: (Monitored) Don't let C Co 2/14 get tied down checking old bunkers.  Let them move out and secure western portion of objectives LARRY and PETER.  Let Co A 2/14 search area.
55 1008 At 0930 hrs C/2/14 located at tunnel complex with 6 tunnels approx 6 feet in length each vic XT15468.  Also found in location were:  10 butterfly bombs, 2 rds mortar type Demo, 1 detonator, 1 knife, 4 carbine magazines, 2 steel helmets, 1 BAR magazine, 1 pair Ho Chi Minh sandals, 12 spider holes.
59 1022 S2 to Bde: Demolition and tunnels were destroyed.  magazines and booby trap grenade will be returned to home station.
60 1035 Bn CO to Bde: (Monitored)  Bn CO is having trouble with C&C ship.  Try to contact AVN officer and have C&C ship replaced.  Bn CO is at refueling pad at 1035 hrs.
66 1101 Co A 1/5 (M) received small arms fire from vic coord XT 152446
67 1110 Bn CO to A/1/5 (M): (Monitored) Bn CO is bringing Artillery on area where enemy automatic fire originated.
68 1118 A/1/5 (M) found a camouflaged hole.  Checking it out.
72 1125 From Bn CO to A Co: (Monitored) Move behind A/1/5 (M) through obj PETER.  Stay north of trail.  Be advised that this is area where sniper fire came from
76 1155 Bde:  A/1/5 (M) will remain in OAHU Base tonight.
77 1158 From S3 to Bde:  (Monitored) Preps complete, we are moving to objective two
81 1224 S3 to A/1/5 (M):  (Monitored) Track stuck, will get it out and continue on objective.
84 1253 Bde to S3: (Monitored)  3/21 Inf sighted 10 unidentified personnel moving northwest from vic coord XT 142472
87 1310 From 6 to Bde 65: (Monitored) Inform 3/21 that my elements are moving north off obj 2 back towards route GLORY.
89 1345 Bn CO to C Co: (Monitored) Your people are going on a 90 degree angle from the azimuth that they should be going on.
91 1405 From 33 (Capt Murphy) to Recon Plat Ldr: Send light section to secure truck convoy for pickup of Co A & C at Jct of route GLORY and Hwy 13.  Remainder of Recon Plat can catch up with truck convoy after Co A 1/5 (M) picks up Hv Mort Plat to escort it back to OAHU base.
92 1410 Bn CO to A/1/5 (M): (Monitored) Would appreciate it if you pick up the mortars on your way back.
94 1425 A/1/5 (M) is on its way back with an APC in tow.  Plans to detonate a 105mm dud that was found this morning vic PL Silver.
97 1430 Mortar Plat Ldr to A/1/5 (M): (Monitored)  4.2 Mortar element on its way back to OAHU Base on route WHITE escorted by recon element and followed by A/1/5 (M)
107 1800 Entac element on security mission with Philippine Surveying Party returned to OAHU Base at 1800 hrs.
112 1901 Effective 310600 Aug 66 2/14th Inf will be detached from 1st Bde and attached to 196th Inf Bde.  2/14th Inf will enter 196th Inf NCS frequency 40.0 NLT 310600 Aug 66 (ATLAS 65).
   

Subsequent log entries contain dozens of reports of units leaving position, closing base camp, leaving base camp, reaching position, etc. and communications regarding meetings to attend.  All negative contact.

B/1/5 req Dustoff for one man w/broken leg, scalp and hand cuts as a result of a collapsed bunker.  Dustoff will come from Cu Chi on Bde freq (command) weather clear to Go Dau Ha.`

   

Initial log entries contain hourly sit/rep, and reports of patrols leaving ambush sites and arriving back at base camp.  All negative contact.

50 0935 C/2/14 found compass by a bunker at XT155468.  This compass was lost by one of 2/14 personnel wounded a few days ago.
52 0945 Bde rear at 0930 dozer working in plantation hit a mine and made inoperative temporarily.
53 1015 C/2/14 located at XT155486 a tunnel complex consisting of 5 to 6 tunnels all approx 6 ft long also 10 butterfly bombs, 2 rds of mortar caliber unknown, 1 detonator, 1 knife, 4 carbine magazines, 2 steel pots type unk, 1 BAR magazine, 1 pr sandals, 12 spider holes
54 1020 S2 2/14 reported 1 booby trap frag grenade at XT156468
58 1110 A/1/5 rec SA fire at XT152466
60 1125 2/14 elements completed search of obj 1, proceeding to obj 2.
62 1200 S2 2/14 Prep fires completed, moving to obj 2.
63 1220 A/1/5 Mech & C/2/14 Forward edge of obj 2, now sweeping area.  Neg contact.
68 1350 S4 (Sgt How) arrangements have been made with 2/14 to feed A/1/5 Mech this afternoon.
71 1340 S3 3/21 Inf request Bde NCS contact 2/14 informer, 2/14 and determine where forward elements, unable to make visual contact
82 1807 Bde rear rpts C/4/23 dest 8 butterfly bombs coord 65194 dest in place.
