C Co Patrol has made contact with the enemy, enemy is probing Patrol's position.  Patrol Ldr feels that they are being encircled.  Capt Murphy calling in Artillery fire.

6 0445 C Co Patrol Ldr believes that 2 VC were killed by the claymore detonated during initial probing by the enemy.  Also Patrol Leader believes that 1 VC was killed by a hand grenade after they had detonated the claymore.  Patrol Leader intends to use suppressive Artillery fire until daylight.
8 0507 From 33 to Co C Patrol:  Do not leave ambush position until daylight.  Add 15 minutes to departure time and fire suppressive fires of 1 magazine small arms, 50% Claymores & M-79's.
9 0535 From 33:  All accounted for at stand-to
10 0555 From 33:  Co C (-) will move to the ambush position at daylight.
12 0620 From 33 to Co C Patrol:  Remain in position until C6 arrives at your location with the remainder of C Co.
13 0631 From C6 to 33:  Co C is at SP now and will wait 15 min before proceeding across road.
16 0715 C Co reported having linked up with patrol elements.  They are going to search the area.
17 0805 C Co reported having searched a 400 meter diameter and finding about 10 lbs of rice and a few other items.  Also they established that the VC had M-14's, M-1's, and at least 1 M-79.  1 very definite KIA and 2 possible.
19 0845 C Co closed Base Camp at 0840.  negative contact.
20 0915 Mortar Plat telephone line will not be manned this morning because Plat is training.  Mortar platoon will be training on Radio Freq 58.15 giving fake fire commands for training purposes.
23 1415 From Heavy Mortar Plat Ldr to S3:  Reference Item 26 Journal of 9-Sep.  Incoming round reported 092020 Sep 66 as possible incoming mortar round at coord XT 170512 now believed to be incoming rifle grenade round at coord XT 170515.  Round was fired from azimuth of 2300 mils from impact.
24 1440 From Chaplain:  Church services for Sunday, 11 Sep 66 will be held in HHC Mess Tent as follows:  Protestant services - 0800 hours; Catholic confession - 1315 hours; Catholic Mass -1330.  PFC Lanham, S1 Representative was directed to notify all units.
27 1530 Delayed Entry:  From 4/31 to 196th Bde:  (Monitored) Dustoff request - 1 US with arm wound; patient priority Urgent.
28 1610 From S3 to Co A, Co C:  Have your Vietnamese interpreters report to BTOC at 110700 Sep 66 for the purpose of furnishing transportation for them to the Main gate.  They are going to Tay Ninh to vote.
29 1640 From Maj Griffith to 196th S3:  2/14 Inf has been trying to register their 81mm Mortars all day.  This could not be done because no aircraft was made available.  I want you to let the 196th S3 know that 2/14 Inf 81mm mortars have not been registered and if the Camp gets mortared tonight we can not fire our 81mm mortars in support.
30 1650 From 196th Bde Avn Off to S3:  Regarding aircraft for 81mm Mortar registering mission.  The aircraft is on the way to the air terminal.  Aircraft tail No. is 613, call sign is Little Bear.
32 1738 From S3 196th Bde (Sgt Brown) to S3:  No patrols will be conducted tonight in 196th Bde sector except patrol scheduled by 2/14.
37 1955 Patrol 1 leaving FFL at 1945 hrs.
39 2035 From 196th Bde:  Cease all artillery fire until further notice.  There is a Red Haze Mission being flown.
43 2145 From S3 to 196th Bde:  At 2115 what appeared to be a parachute floated into the Bn CP area.  It appeared to come from the SE.  The parachute was recovered adn it turned out to be a rice paper hot air balloon.  Cambodian writing appeared on 2 slips of paper attached to the balloon.  The balloon & two slips of paper will be taken to Bde CO tomorrow morning.
44 2155 C Co Patrol in position.
