0715

4/23 resupply ship went down in vic XT648213.  Gunships are overhead for security.

23 0817 4/23 rpts downed A/C will be flyable within (1) hour.  Area is secure.  Cav plat is about 400 meters short of A/4/23, have (2) APC's stuck, in process of getting them out.  Cav is in contact with A/4/23.  A/4/23 patrols closed fwd base 0800.
28 0940 G3 Maj Ching, msg:  Pulled all Aircraft from 4/9, (1) left for C&C, will return aircraft after finishing with them, no time given.
29 0943 2/14 requests (1) Scout Dog with handler.  For patl tonight, rpt to 2/14 TOC at 081500.
30 0950 A/4/23 is moving (1) plat to secure downed A/C at this time.
31 0950 G3 rpts gun team escorting maint chopper to downed A/C.  Rec heavy A/W fire from vic XT 646215, rtn fire, results unk.
32 0955 4/9 reports Chieu Hoi family extracted from opn area, first arms cache was found dry.  Arty fired at 799620.  Rec (1) secondary explosion, 15 meter burst.
33 1007 Called G3, msg from Cav plat.  Had (6) 113's stuck at same location.
36 1048 A/4/23 closing position of downed A/C with (2) plat.  A/3/4 Cav still has (6) M113's stuck.
38 1115 A/4/23 rpts downed A/C has been extracted, aero rifle plat has been extracted.
39 1122 4/9 reports second cache area checked out, found dry, enroute to third area, neg contact.
42 1208 A/4/23 holding present psn providing security for tracks of 3/4 Cav.  All are still stuck.
45 1322 2/14 rpts jamming on Primary Freq, notified Signal officer
46 1330 A/4/23 supply extraction complete.  Remainder of Co moving to obj "B" to join the (2) plats that secured downed A/C earlier.  3/4 Cav has two tracks out now, working on others.
47 1340 A/4/23 A/4/23 recv SA & A/W fire from (2) A/W, 4 rifles from 644212, holding in place.  Calling in Arty on suspected loc.
48 1400 2/14 rpts as result of EOD Team blowing duds at Ann Margaret, 1 round EST 105mm landed in C 2/14 area, Request EOD Team.  S3 msg to 2/14, get EOD team that is at Ann Margaret to check same.
50 1416 1245 hrs at XS686746 (1) Chinook lifting out Arty rec'd (1) rnd through fuel line flying at 1500 ft at 70 knots per hr, flew back to Ben Luc under own power, being repaired there.
52 1608 A/4/23 starting movement to secure stuck tracks vic 650195.
53 1655 A/4/23 closed around tracks.
54 1755 2 tracks of 3/4 Cav in support of A/4/23 at OP Ann Margaret.
56 1810 All tracks are out of mud.  Free to travel.
59 1850 All units must have commo w/patrols at all times, if commo is lost arrangements must be made to either establish commo or return to BC.  Preplanned indirect fires must be made for each patrol.  Each patrol must verify their position.  If unable to do so they use indirect fires to verify.
61 1859 2/14 Delayed Entry:  1750 hrs SSG Ronald L. Harris HHC 2/14 accidentally discharged his wpn hitting SP4 Ronald McCurry in foot, EM evacuated to Med Bn.
77 2205 B/4/23 patrol XT650175 rec'd (2) grenades, returned fire.  Fired indirect fire over entire area.  Neg results.  Patrol in psn 2200.
83 2400 SUMMARY:  1st Bde continued opns KALIHI (2/14 and 4/23 Inf) and LANAKAI (4/9 Inf & B/4/9) conducted airmobile assault and S&D opn vic XS8062.  As reaction force for 2d Bde.
PLANS SUMMARY:  4/9 Inf will conduct checkmate & MEDCAP opns.  2/14 Inf will continue opn KALIHI.  4/23 Inf will continue opn KALIHI.

Rec Cas Rept Non-Battle Casualty.   HHC 2/14
McCurry, Ronnie  CPL  E4
081750 Oct 66.  XT656160.  Gunshot wound left ankle, accidentally shot by another EM while preparing for a patrol.

SUMMARY:  Bde Adjutant attended briefings at 0730 and 1600 conducted by the Bde CO.  Received one non-battle casualty report which occurred in the base camp.  This brings total number of non-operational casualties for the month of October to 6.  Total non-battle casualties to date is 46.
