XS663681 elements moving on river recv S/A fire and two grenades from river bank from unk size VC force.  Fire was returned and enemy action stopped.  No friendly casualties.

23 0857 C/4/9 in obj #1 area 0800 hrs XS675674 have located 2 caches, reported as incidentals in this loc.
25 0900 Gunship received fire from vic XS670688 in support of C/4/9 opns (fwd) at 0850 hrs.
27 0912 A/4/23 found one 8-in Arty, 105mm rds, destroyed XT652186.
32 1020 Ref log 23:  Caches contained:  1 Chicom carbine, 116 hand grenades, 6 mines, 8 cylinder mines, 15 rifle grenades.  This appears to be 1/3 of total find.  Addl info will be forwarded to this HQ as it is obtained.
45 1340 C/4/9 fwd with ARVN attachments received S/A and rifle grenade fire from west side of river vic XS626725.  One ARVN WIA, one boat beached (hit with rifle grenade) and leaking badly.  Fire being returned with S/A from boats, gunships overhead.  Only 2 boats damaged.  As of 1345 boat that was beached is on move again and convoy was no longer under fire.  There are a total of 9 WIA's (all ARVN), 8 were in one boat, 1 in another.  Convoy proceeding to landing site vic XS626725, medical personnel are standing by at this loc to care for WIA's, will be evac by air if necessary.
46 1430 C/4/9 & ARVN Co's closed B/C 1420 hrs.  All boats returned - 9 RVN wounded evacuated.
47 1550 Ref log 23:  4/9 located and destroyed following items:  (6) turtle shell mines, (8) cylindrical mines, (15) Chicom grenades, (150) Chicom AR magazines, (8) 60mm mortar rds, (29) rifle grenades, (1) Chicom grenade, (2) boxes (350 rds) 12.7 MLB Chicom ammo, 50 loose rds 12.7 MLB, (26) rifle flares (US), (2) Thompson Sub machine gun magazines, (300) assorted S/A ammo, (1) M-1 trigger guard, (2,880) rds 7.62 ammo (6 boxes of 480 each), (1) AN/PRC-10 cable, (116) hand grenades, (64) blasting caps, (1) house, (1) sampan.  In addition to the above (1) of each item was evacuated along with (1) grenade launcher, (1) AN/PRC-10 handset, (1) AN/PRC-25 antenna base, assorted M-1 parts, (1) Chicom carbine, all captured at XS675676.
59 2024 B/4/9 fwd patrol was fired on by unknown number of VC with SA fire from coord XS652778 at 2000 hrs.  Patrol relocating to XS641766.
     
77 2400 SUMMARY:  1st Bde continued Opn KALIHI (2/14 Inf - 4/23 Inf) and Opn LANIKAI (4/9 Inf).  4/9 conducted waterborne S&D mission in conjunction with 3/50 ARVN.  2/14 Inf & 4/23 Inf each conducted company size S&D mission in FILHOL plantation.  4/9 Inf (LANIKAI) will continue opn with CHECKMATE vic Oriental in AO.  2/14 Inf & 4/23 Inf (KALIHI) will each conduct plat S&D opns with stay-behind ambushes.
