2/14 rpts (ref log 85 15 Oct) in addition to (1) VC KIA (BC), 3 VC KIA (Poss).  Body under observation was lost between illumination rds.

17 0607 A/4/23 patrol last night going back out today 0700 to locate claymore they lost last night.
23 0745 3/4 Cav attached to 2/14 (1) APC hit AT mine at vic XT701208.  Neg casualties.  Report extensive damage (4) road wheels, 1 road wheel arm, (6) sections of track and engine inoperative, being pulled by another APC.
31 0956 B/2/14 loc 701208, working on booby-trapped area and booby-trapped structure.
32 1020 Recon plat 2/14 securing damages APC recd SA fire from 2 VC vic 701208.  Returned fire.  Results:  1 US KIA, 1 VC KIA (Poss).
33 1045 1 man from C/2/14 detonated a booby trap which resulted in a cut artery.  Action was at XT700208.  Dustoff required.
35 1112 Ref Item 33:  As dustoff ship was coming in a possible claymore was detonated at edge of LZ, no hits, no casualties.
36 1113 B/2/14 loc vic XT696207 to 600208.  Presently working on group of 16 structures that are booby-trapped.
38 1120 Ref Item 35:  Detonation was mine.  Not known if mine was set off by chopper or command detonated.
39 1140 At 1130 hrs elem of B/4/23 picked up 7 VCS near fwd base coord 724152.  Will be held for ARVN interrogation.
40 1200 At 1150 hrs B/2/14 recd sniper fire from one sniper firing from building containing women and children.  Unit held fire until VC left building, then returned fire, but VC managed to escape.  704204.
42 1245 B/4/23 sank 7 sampans at XT735111.
45 1425 B/2/14 request for dustoff for one heat casualty at XT709207.
46 1435 2/14 Recon plat got into firefight at XT713205.  Resulted in 2 VC WIA, 1 US WIA slight.
56 1720 Delayed Entry:  From G2:  3/4 Cav D Troop spotted 2 mortar in a trench at XT648237.  Gunships engaged with AW & rockets.  Estimated VC platoon.  Called in Arty and airstrike, destroyed 2 mortars and 70 ft of trench.  7 VC KIA (BC).
68 2230 C/4/23 patrol 1 spotted 11-12 VC vic coord 734145, called 81mm HE and Arty Illumination.  As soon as illumination lifts, patrol will move out to check area.
69 2245 4/9 fwd patrol sprung ambush on sampan containing 2 men, both men hit, sampan floated down stream.  Unable to rescue bodies, patrol relocating.  2 VC KIA (Poss)
80 2400 SUMMARY:  1st Bde continued Opns KALIHI (2/14 & 4/23 Inf) and LANIKAI (4/9th Inf).  4/9 conducted combat patrols and defense of Ben Luc area.  2/14 Inf conducted a BUDDY S&D opn with 1/7 RVN vic XT7120.  423 conducted S&D BUDDY Opn with 4/7 RVN vic XT739111.
PLANS SUMMARY:  4/9 Inf will conduct MEDCAP and CHECKMATE Opn vic XS650767.  2/14 Inf will conduct BUDDY S&D Opn with 1/7 RVN vic XT6919.  4/23 Inf will conduct BUDDY S&D Opn with 4/7 RVN vic XT7513.

10 1630 Rec'd requirement from G1 for 20 on-post shotgunners.  Supplied 10 from 2/14th and 10 from 4/9th.

13   SUMMARY:  Daily briefings were held at 0745 and 1600 and attended by CO, XO and Adj.  An 8-man shotgun detail was supplied by 2/14th for S&T Bn and a levy of 20 men from this Bde is required for tomorrow.  Adj was absent from the SQ from 0945 to 1100 to attend religious services at 4/23rd Inf.  This section conducted a courtesy inspection of the files at HHC 2/14th Inf.  Rec casualty reports of 2 WIAs and 1 KIA from 2/14th Inf (Opn KALIHI).
