4	0115	4/9 fwd reports VC ambush "L" shaped XS650778, 1950 hrs approx 50-100 meters from road. Dog alerted, 2 men sent out to check, thought scent was coming from house and was normal. Patrol moved out. Claymore exploded. Think it killed all 4 men and dog. VC ambush small arms, AW. Patrol returned fire, moved back about 50 meters, called in Arty fire. Est 15-20 VC ambush. Wpns and equipment count not completed. Patrol dispersion was good. KIA's will be brought back tomorrow.
5	0130	4/9 fwd equipment lost. (Point element 25-30 meters ahead). 1 PRC-10, 2 M-79's, 1 M-16, belonging to dog handler. VC equipment found: 1 carbine banana clip empty. Ambush was "L" shape. Base ran E-W. Long line ran N-S. Patrol went into the ambush at an angle hitting the long side. A stay-behind ambush will check area in the morning. Est 7 VC KIA (Poss).
		Initial log entries contain hourly sit/rep, no change.
28	0840	2/14 lead element (3/4 Cav) hit claymore mine vic 695171. Dustoff requested.
31	0857	4/9 patrol that went out to check area where plat ambush was hit returned to base camp. Nothing found but VC spent ammo.
35	0942	3/4 Cav element rec sniper fire from approx 2 carbines vic XT695173. Unit returned fire w/SA and Arty. VC fire was stopped, results unk.
39	1036	C/4/23 picked up 2 VCS vic XT753117. Evac with unit.
40	1040	A/2/14 sending 2 patrols to check grid square XT6616 where 81mm mortar fire msns were called last night.
41	1100	A1E Skyraider took hits 3 miles SW of Cu Chi and went down vic Laterite Pit at coord XT 667137. CO 2/14 picked u RVNAF pilot. 4/9 given msn to secure aircraft. Tropic Lightning News Story of 2/14 rescue
42	1107	65th Engr dozer stuck vic XT728143. Requested assistance from G3 for retriever.
45	1200	A/2/14 patrols returned at 1200 found nothing.
50	1215	3/4 Cav element with W/2/14 received a burst of AW fire vic XT710193, returned fire, results unk.
52	1310	2/14 C&C ship down at 1250 vic 717165 due to low oil pressure. Maint on the way.
58	1345	4/23 serviced 1 flame track and swapped 1 with 2/14. 2/14 sending track to be serviced to base camp.
61	1425	Arty FO in 2/14 C&C ship spotted 4 VC coord XT696210. FO called and adjusted Arty fire. Results 4 VC KIA (Poss).
65	1452	A/3/4 Cav and 2/14 located bunker 20 ft x 20 ft x 6 ft, nothing inside. XT 704206. Destroyed.
79	1632	2/14 reports rec'd from 5-6 60mm mortar rounds in fwd CP, rds came from west, firing 4.2 mortar and Arty fire at suspected mortar loc, rds came from azimuth 290.
91	1840	2/14 resupply complete.
115	2400	SUMMARY: 1st Bde continues opn KALIHI with 2/14 Inf conducting S&D BUDDY Opn vic XT7119 and 4/23 Inf Bn conducting S&D BUDDY Opn vic XT6914 and Opn LANIKAI 4/9 Inf Bn conducting S&D BUDDY Opn vic XS6674.

2	0730	Twenty-man shotgun detail from 2/14 and 4/9 was picked up at this HQs by S&T Bn.
3	0735	Rec Cas Rept Battle WIA Co C 2/14 Senkus, Neal J. 1Lt 170010 Oct 66. XT709205. Cut on upper lip. Checking defensive perimeter when hit by enemy mortar fragments.
