1/27 reports hammering sound vic C/2/14 bunker #14.  Suspect claymore is being tampered with.

0330

Vic XT632150 1/27 reports receiving 5 incoming SA rounds.

9 0345 1/27 still receiving fire.  Not heavy but sustained, believed to be coming from area 627152 to 630152.  No illumination fired because of patrol loc at 624150.  1/27 is returning fire.  Activity stopped.
12 0424 1/27 sending out 2 squads to sweep bunker line to make sure there are no breaks in wire or mines set up.
14 0530 A/4/23 platoon has arrived at RAG boats and moved out.
25 0830 1/27 reports 3-4 sniper rounds fired from vic XT632137.  Sounded like carbine fire, no action taken.  It was not determined if rds were directed at bunker line or not.
27 0845 1/27 reports that area 6216 is cleared of all friendly troops, clear to fire Arty.  Inspection of the area showed no evidence of VC penetrating past the 5th row of wire.  Two claymores were detonated, one was lying on its back when it exploded causing a large crater, and the other failed to explode due to blasting cap being pulled from the weapon.
33 1300 2 VC in building observed by Mr. Simpson & SSG Love on VR mission.  Arty requested, results 2 VC KIA (Poss), structure destroyed, another damaged, vic XT730179.  One VC observed vic 736175, engaged with Arty, results 1 VC KIA (Poss) 1230 hrs.
44 1722 B/4/9 Laterite Pit detail rec'd SA fire from vic XT672152, called mortar fire, results unk, no casualties.
49 1840 A/4/9 patrol rec'd SA and AW weapons fire vic XT692173.  Unit reaction force committed.  3/4 Cav base reaction force requested.  Unit sustained 9 WIA.
71 2120 Msg from Div G-3:  Tay Ninh now being mortared, est 81-82mm.
72 2125 B/1/27 reports rec'd 7 rds SA fire at bunker #5 from vic XT633145, sending Star Light to check area.
85 2400 SUMMARY:  1st Bde continued Opns LANIKAI and KALIHI.  4/9 conducted local security and ambush patrols.  2/14 remains attached to 2nd Bde.  4/23 and 3/50 ARVN conducted CHECKMATE and MEDCAP.  US/ARVN JOC's remained established at Tan An and Binh Chanh.  No CAS missions were flown in 1st Bde support.
