Div G-3 received call from ARVN Cu Chi Sub Sector.  Some US troops entering outpost.  4/23 reports patrol #1, after receiving H&I fires from 1/27 fired marking rounds and pulled back toward Highway 1.  Fired more marking rounds and were instructed to move with 200 meters of marking burst, which would put the patrol in ambush position.  Patrol not yet back in position.  People from this patrol were the ones at ARVN outpost.  XT610137.

1/27 reports 2 squad reaction force have returned to friendly lines.  Neg results.  Also reports 1 man injured slightly on hand in bunker #15, has been evacuated to Med Bn.

22 0850 A/4/23 located 2 booby-trapped grenades XS668738, will destroy.
25 0950 From G2:  Received from Capt Addison, Cu Chi Sub District:  0940 hrs 2 Civilians reported 40 VC with heavy and light submachine guns loc from XT714098 to XT709095.  Last night Tan Phu Trung was probed by approx 8 VC, later VC came in and captured (1) Chieu Hoi, Cav checking.
28 1015 B/4/9 occupied position ROY at 0915 hrs.  Picked up (3) detainees at 0920 hrs.  At XS695762 at this time have completed obj A, (2) detainees claim to know of VC factory loc XS700766.  Will check factory out.
30 1125 B/4/9 loc obj B XS703761.  Presently receiving AR sniper fire from XS705750.  Neg casualties, returned fire with MG and 60mm mortars.  Now have total of (4) detainees.
32 1230 A/4/23 spotted (2) VC XS667737, taken under fire, VC fled, results unknown.
38 1355 Ref Log 28:  Factory could not be located.
43 1449 1/27 reports EOD will blow approx (4) 81mm duds in 1/27 sector vic 632153 in ten minutes.
46 1601 B/4/9 departed Binh Chanh for Cu Chi.  A total of 9 detainees were turned over to District for interrogation.
53 1830 4 VC were engaged by Arty vic XT734180.  Adjusted by aerial observer.  1 VC KIA (BC).  2 VC KIA (Poss).  Also observed 5 VC in open rice paddy vic XT687235, called Arty, est 2 VC KIA (Poss).
71 2400 SUMMARY:  1st Bde continued Opn LANIKAI in AO LANIKAI I and LANIKAI II.  B/4/9 Inf conducted S&D vic XS685768 and CHECKMATE Opn XS612779.  A/4/23 Inf conducted MEDCAP Opn vic XS665736.
