Msg from G-2:  ARVN outpost at XS622537 being attacked with SA and mortar fire, gunship enroute to location.

0715

Div G-2 reports 2 outposts were attacked at 230330 Nov by est (2) VC Bn, VC broke contact at 0530, friendly forces pursuing VC.  Also Arty base loc XS670632 attacked by mortar.  Unknown nbr of rounds and unknown type.  Duration of attack 5 min.  Total casualties for above actions (3) WIA.  Bridge location XS815774 attacked by estimated (2) VC platoons.  Duration of attack 5 min.

22 0815 B/4/23 fwd loc XS645739.  ARVN unit in blocking pos at XS651730 engaged 4 VC.  VC broke contact and moved south.
24 0845 C/4/9 patrol BEVERLY between coord XT680175 and XT677177 reports area honeycombed with recent digging.  Blew up one bunker
33 1120 B/4/23 fwd at XS649717 found cache containing 1 home-made 60mm mortar at 1110 hrs.
43 1430 Capt Fleming requested through Div G3 (Sgt Kite) that 4/9 Inf bunker line be reinforced with 50 men on night of 25 Nov 66.
44 1530 Ref Item #43:  No action is being taken on this by Div at this time, pending possible return of troops from Tay Ninh.  If this doesn't develop, resubmit request 24 Nov.
55 2105 2/27 reported that they received what they thought was (1) M-79 round vic XT648159, no casualties.  Fire was returned, results unk.
66 2330 A/4/23 patrol located at XT653173 observed movement of two individuals approx 50 meters from ambush site.  Patrol detonated a claymore and no further activity was noted.  Area was checked by patrol with neg results.  patrol will relocate.
70 2400 SUMMARY:  1st Bde continued Opn LANIKAI with B/4/23 Inf conducting a S&D BUDDY Opn in conjunction with two companies of 3/50 ARVN vic XS646715.  4/9 Inf conducted local security Opn in 1st and 2nd Bde area of Cu Chi base.  2/14 Inf remained attached to 2nd Bde.  Four VNAF CAS missions were flown in support of 1st Bde security Opn.
PLANS SUMMARY:  1.  4/9 Inf Bn continue base security and ambush Opn.  2.  2/14 Inf Bn remains attached to 2nd Bde.  3.  4/23 Inf Bn will continue Opn LANIKAI w/CHECKMATE BUDDY Opn vic XS655757 and XS639751.
