A/4/9 patrol fwd loc XS703779 executed an ambush against 6 VC resulting in 2 VC KIA (BC) and the capture of one Mauser weapon.  Further details to follow.

Ref Item 4:  Patrol captured 2 VC WIA, 1 carbine, 1 M-1 rifle, one hand grenade.

16 0915 Ref Item 4:  Results of action, 2 VC KIA (BC), 2 VC KIA (Poss), 2 captured.  These prisoners were not wounded.  Captured equipment 1 US M-1 rifle, 1 US M-1 Carbine, 1 Chicom carbine, 1 hand grenade, and documents taken off one of the dead bodies.
24 1717 1510:  1st Bde AO (aerial observer) spotted 10-15 VC in wooded area vic XT695195, moving east toward village vic XT715190, 8-10 VC on bicycles, 30 ox carts, 2-3 walking.  Area showed signs of recent digging.  Called Arty resulting in 1 VC KIA (BC), 2 VC KIA (Poss).  1600:  Spotted 6 VC walking along rice paddy dike near several damaged structures vic XT627308.  Called Arty resulting in 2 VC KIA (BC), 3 VC KIA (Poss).  After initial Arty round aircraft rec'd 2 rds of 50 cal fire from unknown direction.  Aircraft was not hit.
38 2220 HHC/4/9 with radar and Starlite spotted 3 personnel at XT676157 moving north, engaged with 50 cal and 4.2 mortar.  3 VC KIA (Poss), sending out a reinforced squad to check area.
42 2400 SUMMARY:  1st Bde continued opn LANIKAI in Long An and Gia Dinh Province and conducted base defense security and ambush opns in Cu Chi base area.  4/9 Inf conducted night ambushes in Gia Dinh Province.  A/4/9 ambush patrol engaged 6 VC XS703799, resulting in 2 VC KIA (BC), 2 VC captured, 2 VC KIA (Poss) and 3 weapons captured.  A/4/9 moved from Binh Chanh to Cu Chi by convoy closing at 1240 hrs.  2/14 Inf continued base security and ambush opns in Cu Chi base area.  4/23 Inf exchanged Co's at Ben Luc with A Co moving by convoy from Cu Chi to Ben Luc at 0835 hrs.  B Co moved by convoy from Ben Luc to Cu Chi closing at 1240 hrs.  ASCC's remained established at Tan An, Ben Luc and Binh Chanh.  Four VNAF CAS missions were flown in support of 1st Bde security opns.
PLANS SUMMARY:  1.  4/9 Inf Bn will continue local security and ambush opns in Hau Nghia and Gia Dinh Provinces.  Construction of a Battalion fire support base vic Binh Chanh will continue.  C Co will move by convoy from Cu Chi to Binh Chanh.  2.  2/14 Inf Bn will continue local security and ambush opns in Cu Chi base area.  3.  4/23 Inf Bn will continue opn LANIKAI in Long An Province with a BUSHMASTER BUDDY opn vic XS600758.  C Co with ARVN elements will move from XS584768 toward the objective area.  A company base will be set up in vic of objective area and saturation patrolling conducted during daylight and darkness until 301400 hrs.  A MEDCAP will be conducted vic XS630774 which will be secured by A Co.
