16	0712	4/23 1st lift complete. ARVN in posn XS633794. As ARVN moved to occupy blocking posn taken under fire by est VC squad with SA. ARVN returned fire, VC withdrew to northwest, neg casualties.
23	0905	C/4/23 coord XS648802 found and destroyed 2 grenades, one of which was rigged as a booby-trap.
26	1000	C/4/23 found and destroyed 1 booby-trapped grenade at XS644799.
28	1030	B/4/9 patrol BRASS received SA fire at coord XS716772 from house. Patrol returned fire and SA from house ceased. Searched house, found 7-8 shell casings, either Russian or Chinese, .30 Cal. PF guide with patrol set fire to house and burned it down.
38	1630	B/4/23 has 4 casualties XT675178. Dustoff requested. Patrol had fire mission for 2 marking rounds 81mm mortar. Fired by B/4/23, 2 rounds HE. Rounds landed on patrol. 2 litter and 2 ambulatory.
47	2007	C/4/9 patrol MABEL sprung ambush against unknown number of VC vic XS763777. VC returned fire with SA and AW. Reaction force committed. Results unk. 1 US WIA (serious), dustoff requested.
61	2320	Ref Item 47: C/4/9 estimated approx 5 VC on initial contact and were then fired on by approx 15-20 additional VC. VC broke contact. Unit claims 3 VC KIA (Poss), (1) US Carbine was captured.
65	2400	SUMMARY: 1st Bde continued Opn LANIKAI and FAIRFAX, conducted opns in FILHOL Plantation and conducted local security in Cu Chi base area. 4/9 Inf (FAIRFAX) conducted S&D BUDDY opn vic XS7678. 2/14 Inf conducted S&D opn in FILHOL Plantation vic XS6917. 4/23 Inf (LANIKAI) conducted S&D BUDDY opn vic XS630780. PLANS SUMMARY: 4/9 Inf will continue opn FAIRFAX with S&D opn vic XS595785. 2/14 Inf will continue local security and ambush opns in FILHOL Plantation. 4/23 Inf conducts S&D BUDDY opn with 3/50 ARVN vic XS5971.
