B/3/22 starting to move and attempting to make contact in the same area as yesterday.

39 0700 Delayed Entry 0650:  B/3/22 is starting to receive sniper fire from vic XS823806.
23 0736 B/4/9 rec'd fire XS796768.  Fire came from house.  Checked house, found expended brass.  Detained 1 male suspect.
25 0800 Ref Item 23:  Received report from B/4/9, as result of VC fire 2 WIA's were sustained.  Dustoff has been requested.
27 0835 3/22 reports air strike vic XS823806 completed.  (1) 30 foot bunker uncovered.  Arty being used, when Arty is lifted B/3/22 will move into the area.
35 0950 B/4/9 vic XS793767 found 32 rounds .30 Cal ammo and medical supplies hidden in some rice inside a hut.
38 1020 General Weyand arrived 4/9 loc at Binh Chanh at 1010 hrs.
40 1025 2/14 tasked to establish outpost north of Ben Luc base camp coord to be made with HHC 1st Bde Company Commander.
41 1040 4/9 reported that Dist reported 6 foxholes dug 2 days ago vic XS800815, dug 100 meters apart.
43 1050 B/3/22 encountered numerous mines and booby-traps, 20-25 foxholes, 1 bunker, continuing search vic XS823806.
51 1345 B/3/22 found 2 VC bodies, 15-20 ft well dug in position.  3 bunkers with direct Arty hits and evidence of bodies being dragged away.  At 1255 hrs. Vic XS823806.  At 1324 hrs located 2 tunnels 15 meters in length and 2 meters wide connecting to one-man foxholes same vic.  Assorted documents were found and will be evacuated.
53 1420 4 additional bunkers were found vic XS822806 by B/3/22.  Destroyed.
55 1645 4/9 at coord XS716788.  Dustoff called and completed for one man.  Suffered broken back while working in area.
56 1650 B/4/9 spotted 4 persons with weapons, taken under fire XS802764.  More to follow.
62 1850 B/4/9 reports Arty and mortar fire fixed on loc from which sporadic fire had originated.  Patrol was CAROL.  B/4/9 moved to northeast flank of contact.  Reaction force was committed and on way to location also received sporadic fire.  Directed 81mm mortars XS793772.  Reaction force linkup was effected 1850 hrs.
68 1935 B/4/9 patrol CINDY detonated booby-trap at XS774771.  1 man WIA.  Man being evacuated to 4/9 Base Camp.  Requested for dustoff to be on standby.
70 2115 Ref Item 68:  Dustoff not required, WIA not serious.
72 2145 B/4/9 reaction force which linked with B/4/9 patrol CAROL has returned to B/4/9 base camp.
76 2400 SUMMARY:  1st Bde continues opn FAIRFAX and LANIKAI.  ASCC's remain established at Tan An, Ben Luc, Binh Chanh, and Nha Be.  4/9 Inf continues construction of RF/PF outpost.  Co A (-) conducted Eagle filghts with no enemy contact.  Co B (-) conducted S&D opn resulting in 2 US WIA.  2/14 conducted BUDDY opn with one Co 2/50 RAVN.  3/22 continued BUDDY opn with 5th ARVN Airborne Bn.  A joint US/ARVN intelligence team started screening villagers of the town of Phuoc Loc XS840825 to attempt to located VC.  MEDCAP and ARVN Civic Action teams conducted opns.
PLANS SUMMARY:  4/9 Inf to remain at Binh Chanh as fwd base security.  2/14 Inf will conduct local security at B/C at Ben Luc.  3/22 Inf with platoon from 54th ARVN Co will continue search of village of Phuoc Loc.
