B/2/14 rec'd sniper fire vic XS730705 from 3 VC with carbines.  VC engaged with SA and Arty.

19 0930 B/2/14 rec'd sniper fire from vic XS728701.  1 US WIA (chest wound), dustoff has been completed.  Patrol #1 C/2/14 rec'd sniper fire from XS744689.  No casualties.  Fire being returned by Arty.
21 1028 B/2/14 loc vic XS729702, neg contact.  At 1025 patrol #1 C/2/14 rec'd SA fire from vic XS744699.  Calling in Arty.
22 1040 At 1030 hrs B/2/14 destroyed a bunker 6 ft x 4 ft x 8 ft.  The explosion set fire to a vacant grass structure adjacent to the bunker.
26 1210 B/4/9 conducted MEDCAP vic Co base from 1015 hrs to 1200 hrs.  85 patients were treated.
27 1225 Ref Item 22:  B/2/14 reported that 2 secondary explosions occurred from the grass structure that was set afire.
29 1253 C/4/9 treated 119 patients during a MEDCAP conducted at the unit CP XS761785, from 1000 to 1200 hrs.
31 1308 Cav platoon from Cu Chi arrived Binh Chanh last night 2115.  Departed Binh Chanh for Rach Kien at 300845 arriving there at 1000 hrs.
33 1350 2/14 base camp rec'd 3 rounds 60mm mortars.  No casualties.
34 1351 Delayed Entry 0930:  2/14th Inf:  B Battery 7/11 Arty reported that at 0800 hrs National Police  picked up one female who is the wife of a VC agricultural group leader.  Being held for questioning.  National Police picked up one female vic Rach Kien.  She speaks Vietnamese but claims her father is Cambodian.  She is from Saigon but her father's location is not known.
37 1510 1st Bde AO (Capt Vozka) sighted 2 individuals in motorized sampan vic XSW547824.  Called in Arty, 1 VC KIA (Poss), sampan damaged.
39 1655 C/4/9 platoon made a S&D vic XS774801, closed BC at 1400.  Apprehended 4 detainees.  Detainees evacuated to base camp for interrogation.
42 1925 C/4/9 rec'd 3 ineffective SA vic XS765783.  No casualties.
43 1940 PRU platoon working with 2/14 was sent out to blow bridge vic XS729698.  As platoon proceeded to loc, platoon was hit with SA fire which resulted in 1 ARVN WIA.  81mm fired in support as they were backing off to BC.  Still receiving fire which resulted in 2 additional WIA.  Dustoff requested.
44 1945 C/2/14 outpost #2 sighted 8 VC vic XS749697.  Arty was called, results unk.
45 2035 B/2/14 outpost #3 rec'd SA fire which resulted in 1 field Police WIA vic XS739696.  Outpost returned fire and VC fires ceased.  Dustoff requested.
50 2215 A/3/22 patrol 59B rec'd sniper fire from village XS861800.  Patrol 61B rec'd fire from XS878798.  61B returned fire with M079 and fire ceased.  Results of fire unknown.
51 2230 A/3/22 patrol 60A rec'd fire with 2 grenade and carbine from southwest entrance of village.  1 US WIA, dustoff requested and on the way.  Fire was returned, results unk.
53 2330 B/4/9 reinforced squad encountered estimated 20-30 VC vic XS804765.  Engaged VC with SA and 81mm mortars, and reaction force was sent out.  Results of all action unknown.
53 2400 SUMMARY:  1st Bde continued Opns FAIRFAX (4/9 and 3/22 Inf) and LANIKAI (2/14th Inf).  ASCC's remain established at Ben Luc, Binh Chanh, Tan An, Rach Kien, Nha Be, and Gia Dinah.  4/9 Inf:  A Co remained at Binh Chanh conducting local platoon size security patrols about Bn base camp.  2/14:  Bn continues to build a base at Rach Kien.  Co A remain at BC during the day conducting local security platoon about base camp and remainder of company continues construction of fwd BC.  3/22 Inf:  A Co remained in their BC conducting saturation patrols in AO COW XS8680.  Co B remained DS 5th ARVN Airborne.
PLANS SUMMARY:  4/9 Inf:  All Co's will remain in BC tomorrow conducting local security during the day and ambushes during the evening.  2/14 Inf:  Bn will remain at Rach Kien conducting local security patrols during the day and ambushes for the night.  3/22 Inf:  All Co's will remain in their respective BC conducting local security patrols during the day and ambushes at night.
