S3 to A & B Co:  A Co takes over bridge at 1300 hrs from B Co.  Patrol briefing at 1300 hrs at Bn CP.

19 0800 VHF to Bde will be out for 2-3 hours because of a damaged part.
28 0930 2/14 Recon platoon departed Rach Kien, 14 personnel (EM) from 9th Inf Div were passengers in the convoy enroute to Ben Luc.  Two other EM from the 9th Inf Div are still at Rach Kien and will be sent to Ben Luc later today.
32 1030 1st Bde CO and S-3 visited the 2/14 Inf TOC.
37 1130 From VHF to S3:  Hotline to Bde operational.
45 1250 From Bde to S3 Air:  2/14 Inf has been advised to have a rifle company ready for possible deployment to vic XS 6383, XS 6682.  An estimated 10-15 VC were sighted at that location by FAC.  Capt Otjen was informed that his company was the standby.  At approx 1300 1st Bde called and informed Capt Cecchine that the 2/14 Inf had no longer the requirement for the standby company.
55 1600 B Co received SA fire from vic XS 765702.  Fire returned with SA and 81mm mortars.  No friendly casualties.
57 1630 B Co observed 1 man running in XS 769702.  Man was wearing an ARVN uniform.
59 1640 B Co reports they found 1 sampan at XS 767699, they are destroying it.
61 1720 FAC reported seeing a house vic XS 768709 with 9 freshly dug foxholes around the area.  There were both 1 and 2-man positions.
63 1735 B Co reports they will be firing Arty vic XS 774697 (snipers appeared).
67 1748 B Co reports 4 VC KIA (Poss) from Arty.
68 1800 B Co reports possible 2 to 3-man sniper team at XS 778705.
70 1805 B Co receiving sniper fire from XS 773700.
71 1820 B Co reports receiving 1 round SA fire from coord XS 770708.  1835: Still receiving SA fire, calling in Arty.
74 1840 B Co reports 2 civilians WIA, will check to see how serious they are.  Also one US WIA shot in leg, checking to see how serious.  1900:  US and civilian WIA will require dustoff.  US wound in upper right thigh, 2 civilians wounded in foot, other has slight head wound.
81 1918 B Co reports negative contact at this time.  WIA in very serious condition.
82 1923 B Co reports another WIA, gunshot wound in arm, called for dustoff.
95 2210 B Co reports they will need ammunition resupply in the morning.

FAC rec'd SA fire vic XS6282.  Observed sampan with VC vic XS632828, also SA fire this area.  Requested clearance for air strike through Tan An.  Approved.

11 1100 2/14 requirements for 4 Feb:  2 airmobile Co's, 5 lifts, FAC on station, fighters on station.  Heavy load napalm.
13 1130 FAC observed uniformed troops vic XS6282, XS632838, SA fire in this area.  Air Strike requested.
15 1200 Aircraft rec'd AW and SA fire from vic XS6282 during air strike.  Another immediate air strike was requested by FAC.
16 1227 FAC reported VC activity vic XS630820-XS625830-XS632830-XS634820.  Three air strikes in area.  2/14 alerted to prepare for airmobile assault into this area to search.  A/2/14 is preparing to perform this mission.
17 1255 Ref Item 16:  2/14 relieved of this commitment due to lack of choppers.  There will not be an airmobile assault.
21 1515 FAC observed 1 sampan vic XS637897, requested clearance from Duc Hoa and command.  1 sampan heavily damaged.
23 1630 B/2/14 rec'd SA fire from vic XS765702.  Fire returned with SA and 81mm mortar.
24 1640 B/2/14 observed 1 man running XS769702.  Man wearing ARVN uniform, taken under SD fire, neg results.
26 1652 B/2/14 loc 1 sampan vic XS767699.
28 1735 B/2/14 reports 3 VC KIA (Poss) by Arty at XS774697.
29 1835 B/2/14 rec'd 4 rounds sniper fire, no casualties.
30 1900 B/2/14 rec'd sniper fire, 1 US WIA, hit in thigh.  2 civilians hit.  Returned fire with SA and Arty, results unk.
31 1930 B/2/14 has another US WIA caused by sniper fire, hit in arm.
38 2400 SUMMARY:  1st Bde continued opns LANIKAI and FAIRFAX.  Op control of FAIRFAX turned over to 3/7 Inf.  4/9 Inf returned to Cu Chi.  2/14 Inf continued opn LANIKAI with Co size S&C opn vic XS7669.
PLANS SUMMARY:  4/9 Inf OPCON 2nd Bde eff 310630 hrs.  2/14 Inf will continue LANIKAI with S&C opn vic XS7769.
