Listening Post 1 reported observing a man walk up to the barbed wire and just stand there.  They fired 1 shot and he disappeared.  A few minutes later they saw him again and once again fired 1 shot.  The man disappeared and hasn't been seen again.  Vic XS737694.

Ref Item 3:  Listening Post 1 checked the area and found that concertina has been cut.  Notified C Co to get it repaired.

14 0800 65th Engr element departed Rach Kien on their road-clearing mission at approx 0800 hrs.
16 0855 B Co reports destroying 31 covered foxholes on 4-Feb-67.
19 0910 A Co reports finding a large bunker at vic XS705701, 30 ft x 15 ft x 4 ft, with overhead cover, larger of 12 ft logs one layer of thick mangrove, 3 ft of packed mud, floor was cement, walls brick with cement plaster.  Found within the bunker were 4 M-16 magazines, 2 under the loose time, 2 in the bunker.  Also found 1 VC propaganda book and 1 Vietnamese poncho, 1 Vietnamese combat pack.  Bunker was destroyed.
20 0945 1/46 reports the road between Rach Kien and Cau Tram has been secured.  Engr's completed clearing the same road at the same time.
21 0950 Recon platoon is escorting today's convoy enroute to Rach Kien, no enemy contact.
22 0950 A Co reports finding 8 rounds of 81mm mortar and some 60mm shell casings vic XS705701.
30 1105 B Co 2nd platoon made contact with 2-man sniper team, fire is coming from 2 positions vic XS718739 and XS722736 - will keep us informed, Arty firing on 2 positions.
31 1120 A Co reports finding several freshly dug 1 and 2-man positions at Obj 9 XS718711.  To be destroyed.
34 1210 B Co 2nd platoon has a female detainee found in a house where sniper fire was previously coming from vic XS719734.  She fits description and age and has the name of one that was published in the list used during operation My Le.  She will be extracted with the resupply this afternoon.
35 1258 B Co reported taking 2 VC snipers under fire XS718739.  No friendly casualties.
37 1315 A Co reports receiving sniper fire from vic XS722716.  No friendly casualties.
38 1340 A Co reports sustaining 1 WIA vic XS723717 with head injury, do not know whether dustoff is required or not at this time.  Co A CO will try to send the WIA to Rach Kien by motor vehicle.  Recon platoon was notified of Co A requirement by Capt Friend.
39 1350 3/10 Cav reports that they had one track hit a mine at XS737719.  No casualties.
42 1420 A Co reports the 1 WIA closed base camp at 1420 hrs, medics said the wound was slight, required no dustoff.  (corrected to 2 WIA in 6-Feb Journal)
43 1450 A Co closed Rach Kien base camp at approx 1450 hrs from their 2-day operation conducted vic XS700700.
46 1530 B Co reported that National Police checked out 1 female VCS and said she was all right, set her free.
50 1540 B Co reports destroying 17 bunkers with overhead cover.  Also reports 5 VC KIA (Poss) by Arty at the following:   XS719734, 3 VC KIA (Poss) by Arty, and XS718739, 2 VC KIA (Poss) by Arty.  Large amounts of blood were found at those locations.  Co B claimed 2 VC KIA (Poss) by SA fire vic XS718737 - the VC were fired upon by Co B elements and they fell.  An inspection of the area disclosed trails of blood leading away from the location where they were seen falling.
69 2037 B Co reports 2nd platoon has 1 US WIA from small arms fire at XS722731.  Will bring him into CP location and get more information, calling Arty on location.
70 2053 From Arty to S3:  Arty has one VC KIA (Poss) at coord XS 723732.

On this day the 2/14th Inf Bn was the only battalion attached to 1st Brigade.  Since most of the 2/14 S-3 log entries above were also reported to Brigade HQ, they were duplicated in the 1st Bde S2/S3 log, but they will not be repeated here.  I've included only entries that contain unique or unusual information

SUMMARY:  1st Bde continued opn LANIKAI with 2/14 Inf conducting a S&D BUDDY opn with A/2/14 and 3/10 Cav (ARVN), moving out of night base vic XS7070 and moving east to Rach Kien.
PLANS SUMMARY:  2/14 Inf will continue opn LANIKAI with B/2/14 continuing opns in its fwd base and C/2/14 conducting a two-day S&D opn vic XS7772.
