From Bde to 33:  Itinerary for 25th Inf Div's Chief of Staff visit to 2/14 is as follows:  From 1105-1130, enroute to Rach Kien.  From 1130-1335 visit 2/14 to include briefing and dinner.  At 1335 hrs depart Rach Kien for Cu Chi.

23 0925 From XO Co A 2/14 to 33:  Stated that Co A sustained 5 WIA's on 4 Feb (3 of which were evacuated) instead of 4 previously stated.  Also that Co A sustained 2 WIA's yesterday, 5 Feb, instead of 1 WIA as reported.
31 1120 Outpost 2 reported hearing what sounded like an M-16 rifle firing vic outpost 1.  A check revealed the fire had occurred vic the bridge.  Bunker line near the bridge reported that they had not fired their weapons.
32 1130 B Co reports 3rd platoon received sniper fire from 2 2-man sniper teams vic XS 718715 and XS721716, they are checking the area.
34 1210 B Co reports 3 to 4-man sniper team vic XS716725, they are calling in Arty, will check area.  Results 3 VC KIA (Poss) by Arty.
39 1415 C Co reports hearing auto weapons fire to the west across North-South road.
40 1445 C Co reports having 10 detainees ranging from 30 years to 50.  They were picked up at XS752714.  National Policemen will check them out and decide what to do with them.  The National Police determined that the 10 were families who had come from Cholon for the TET holidays, they were released.
51 1705 C Co reports extremely large explosion vic XS768711.  No casualties.
53 1735 C Co reports receiving sporadic sniper fire, fire returned, no casualties.
54 1740 Outpost 3 observed approx 8 rounds of carbine fire from vic XS743707.  No friendly casualties.
55 1735 C co reports 30 VC vic XS 769711.
57 1805 FAC observed 4 individuals running at vic XS771695.
62 1830 B Co 3rd platoon destroyed 12 covered foxholes at vic XS716716.
63 1910 C Co reports dustoff receiving fire coming in LZ from the south.
65 1840 C Co requests dustoff for 2 US WIA, both urgent, 1 arm wound, 1 face wound, LZ XS 769710.  Fire came from XS 771709, there were only a couple of bursts automatic weapons that caused the 2 WIA's.
68 1925 From C Co to S3:  The Arty DEFCONs have resulted in a secondary explosion XS 768708.  A total of 2 secondary explosions were noted.
81 2110 From Medic to S3:  Medics requested a dustoff for 1 US non-combat casualty with a high fever (104).
84 2135 B Co reports that their third platoon saw lights and movement at XS 718719, took them under fire, movement ceased, lights went out.
87 2210 B Co reports that their ambush patrol saw VC movement vic coord XS 724715, called in Arty, results unknown.
88 2215 From Surgeon to S3:  1 man from A Co 1st platoon accidentally shot himself in the hand, evac not needed.
89 2225 B Co reports 3 VC KIA (Poss) by Arty.

On this day the 2/14th Inf Bn was the only battalion attached to 1st Brigade.  Since most of the 2/14 S-3 log entries above were also reported to Brigade HQ, they were duplicated in the 1st Bde S2/S3 log, but they will not be repeated here.  I've included only entries that contain unique or unusual information

SUMMARY:  1st Bde continues opn LANIKAI with 2/14 Inf (-) with local S&D missions at Rach Kien and B Co continuing opns vic fwd base vic XS7272.  1st Bde HQs returned by convoy to Cu Chi.  4/9 Inf released from OPCON 2nd Bde and moved to Tay Ninh, OPCON 25th Div HQs.  4/23 remains OPCON 3rd Bde, 4th Div.
PLANS SUMMARY:  2/14 Inf continues opn LANIKAI with B Co on local S&D vic XS725726.  C/2/14 remains in base at Rach Kien.
