C Co 1st platoon took two snipers under fire at 0730.  Platoon checked area, found two weapons and 2 VC KIA (BC).

24 0856 C Co reports one of the houses which was burned down last night by Arty is confirmed to be VC.  Found one grenade and some MG links.
25 0935 A Co 3rd platoon reports finding 3 rockets from a chopper.  Will blow in place.
26 0950 From Bde to S3:  2/14 will send 1 rifle company back to Cu Chi for standby for 4/9 Inf.  A Co should be prepared to return to Cu Chi without delay.
27 1000 From S3 to all patrols:  S3 informed all patrols to return to base camp.  They will be relieved by ARVN elements.
28 1000 From Bn S3 to C Co CO:  Return to base camp without delay.
32 1100 1st Bde CO arrived at 2/14 Inf Base Camp
34 1115 From A Co CO to S3:  All patrols and LPs from A Co closed base camp at 1115 hrs, LP 1 relieved at 1115 hrs.
35 1125 From S3:  25th Inf Div Chief of Staff (Col Wilson) arrived at Rach Kien 1125 hrs.
36 1130 Recon platoon leader reports he is being held back by traffic jam vic XS751831.
37 1130 1/46 requested that the twin 40s and a Demolition team be provided to assist in clearing the road between Co B loc and the crossroads.  Granted.
38 1145 From Sen Advisor 50th Regt to 33:  Requested assistance for an emergency MEDEVAC of Vietnamese civilian injured in traffic accident at Ben Luc.  2/14 contacted the 25th Inf Div Chief of Staff who was visiting the 2/14 and he provided his helicopter for the purpose of the MEDEVAC.  Completed approx 1205 hrs.
39 1155 A Co 3rd platoon closed base camp.
40 1200 C Co closed base camp.
42 1255 Entac outpost 1 reports receiving a few sniper rounds from XS738695.
45 1310 B Co reports that 1st platoon made contact with 3 VC snipers at XS730735.  Returning fire with SA and M-79.  No friendly casualties.
46 1310 Brig Gen O'Connor arrived at Rach Kien base camp at 1310 hrs.
55 1630 From S3 to Bde:  Convoy from Rach Kien with Co A heading for Cu Chi left here at 1630 hrs.
64 1903 B Co reports finding 30 freshly dug open foxholes between XS723735 and XS730735.  B Co also spotted 6 VC from vic XS730735 approx 900 meters away, 6 VC had weapons.
66 1910 From Bde to S3:  TET starts 0700 8 Feb to 0700 12 Feb, same rules as Christmas Holidays.
67 1915 From S3 (rear) to S3:  Convoy closed Cu Chi.
76 2040 B Co outpost 1 sees 1 VC with weapon at XS728726.  Will observe.
83 2245 1/46 Advisor reports they are receiving SA fire and mortar rounds at Can Giuoc.  1/46 asks if 2/14 has a light fire team on standby for assistance if required.
84 2300 C Co bunker #1 spotted movement to their front and fired illumination into the area.  Nothing was seen.

On this day the 2/14th Inf Bn was the only battalion attached to 1st Brigade.  Since most of the 2/14 S-3 log entries above were also reported to Brigade HQ, they were duplicated in the 1st Bde S2/S3 log, but they will not be repeated here.  I've included only entries that contain unique or unusual information

Brigade Command Post forward terminated.  Brigade CP at Cu Chi reestablished and assumes NCS.

0930

G-3 informed that 4/9 has been issued a warning order for possible operation vic Tay Ninh.  Battalion will be under OPCON of 25th Div forward.  Also one company of 2/14 is to return to Cu Chi today.

11 1030 G-3 issued order as follows:  A/4/9 return to B/C ASAP.  4/9 Inf removed to Tay Ninh and will depart Cu Chi by 071200 Feb.  One battery of 7/11 Arty will accompany for support.  3/4 Cav will escort.  One Co 2/17 return to B/C by dark.  One Co 1/27 move to Trang Bang by foot and vehicle to Cu Chi B/C.  One Co 2/14 move by wheel to Cu Chi by dark.  Laterite pit - 65th Engr (temp) and Ann Margaret - Squad of 3/4 Cav (temp).  Base camp security is responsibility of 2nd Bde.  Advance party of 4/9 to Tay Ninh will depart 071100 Feb.
23 1945 Sgt Alex, TOC 4/9 reported that one of his bunkers reported an Arty burst 400 meters and another one 1500 meters.
39 2400 Summary:  1st Bde continued opn LANIKAI with 2/14 Inf conducting S&D opn vic Rach Kien base camp.  4/9 Inf was released from OPCON 2nd Bde and moved to Tay Ninh under OPCON 25th Div fwd.  4/23 Inf remains under OPCON 3rd Bde, 4th Div.  1st Bde HQ returned to Cu Chi base camp.
PLANS SUMMARY:  2/14 Inf (LANIKAI) continues opns from B/2/14 base vic XS725726 and C/2/14 remains at Rach Kien base camp.
