From Twin 40's to 33:  In position at the road junction.  RJ has been cleared.  At 0830 hrs 46 ARVN secured between crossroads and Cau Tram.

22 1010 From S3 to Bde:  B Co 2/14 Inf departed Rach Kien base camp vic XS743699 enroute to Cu Chi base camp at 1010 hrs.
28 1350 From S3 to Bde:  1 Chieu Hoi turned himself in to the 1/46th ARVN at 0800 hrs.
29 1355 B Co closed Cu Chi base camp at 1355 hrs.
49 1900 From S2 to Bde:  Local farmer from town east of Rach Kien, Ap Phuoc Hanh, came to this location for treatment of cut finger.  Finger cut by VC who demanded 3,000 piastres from farmer.  Wound inflicted because he could not pay.
50 1930 From S3 to Bde:  1.  Chieu Hoi turned himself in to 1/46th ARVN - individual from Medical section.  2.  1 Chieu Hoi turned himself in to 2/14.  Individual is local VC guerrilla from vic XS721697.  He gave names of 13 other guerrillas.  3.  Subject stated that his brother and brother in law Chieu Hoi'd to Tan An today.

101800H to 111800H Feb 67


1.  Operations Summary

    a.  General:  2/14th Infantry continues Operation LANIKAI.  During the ours of darkness six fire team size patrols were conducted outside the Bn perimeter.  Today five fire team size security patrols were conducted.  Co B 2/14th moved by tactical convoy from RACH KIEN to CU CHI as Co A 3/39th Inf moved to RACH KIEN under OPCON of 2/14th Inf.  Co A remained at CU CHI as part of 1st Bde base area security force and had one rifle platoon detached to the 2nd Bn, 34th Armor for operations in the FILHOL PLANTATION.  Recon platoon conducted ROAD RUNNER operations from CU CHI to RACH KIEN.  Plat, 65th engineers cleared the road from RACH KIEN to CAU TRAM.  B/5/2 Arty provided security for engineers clearing the road from RACH KIEN to CAU TRAM.

    b.  Co A:  Co A remained at CU CHI as part of 1st Bde security force and attached one rifle platoon to 2nd Bn, 34th Armor for operations in the FILHOL PLANTATION.

    c.  Co B:  Co B conducted five security patrols outside the Bn perimeter during the hours of darkness.  Today Co B departed RACH KIEN at 1010 hours and cloded CU CHI at 1355 hours.  Co B will assume bunker line responsibility and execute platoon size ambush patrols in AO DRAGON.

    d.  Co C:  Co C secured the RACH KIEN base area.  Today Co C conducted four fire team security patrols.  One platoon, Co C, provided security for engineers clearing the road from RACH KIEN to XS742718.

    e.  Recon:  Recon platoon conducted ROAD RUNNER operations from RACH KIEN to CU CHI and from BINH CHANH to RACH KIEN escorting B/2/14 and A/3/39.

    f.  ENTAC:  ENTAC Platoon continued to secure the RACH KIEN bridge.

    g.  B/5/2 Arty:  B/5/2 Arty provided security for engineers clearing the road from RACH KIEN to CAU TRAM.

    h.  Plat, 65th Engineers:  The attached engineer platoon cleared the road from RACH KIEN to CAU TRAM.

    i.  A/3/39:  A/3/39 closed RACH KIEN under OPCON of 2/14th Inf today and will assist in base area defense.

    j.  1/46th Inf ARVN:  One company 1/46th relieved Co B at the forward Co base area and will continue to secure it.  1/46th conducted local security patrolling.  At 0800 hours one CHIEU HOI turned himself in to 1/46th Inf ARVN.

2.  Operational Plans:  2/14th Infantry will conduct local security patrols vic RACH KIEN.  Tomorrow the 2nd of three March Units will move by tactical convoy from RACH KIEN to CU CHI and resume base camp security missions.

On this day the 2/14th Inf Bn was the only battalion attached to 1st Brigade.  Since most of the 2/14 S-3 log entries above were also reported to Brigade HQ, they were duplicated in the 1st Bde S2/S3 log, but they will not be repeated here.  I've included only entries that contain unique or unusual information

SUMMARY:  1st Bde continued opn LANIKAI with 2/14 Inf conducting security opns in AO and local security in Cu Chi base camp area.  B/2/14 moved from Rach Kien to Cu Chi base camp.  4/9 Inf remained OPCON of 196th Bde.  4/23 remained OPCON of 3rd Bde, 4th Div.
PLANS SUMMARY:  2/14 Inf conducts security opns in the Rach Kien and Cu Chi base areas.  4/9 Inf and 4/23 Inf status unchanged.
