B Co patrol 3 requested defcons at grid XT613150.

C Co Patrol 3 left ambush position

8 0500 B Co patrol 3 called artillery on suspected VC movement at XT610153.
15 0726 A Co first lift airborne 0726.  Second lift delayed because of weather.
19 0757 A Co second lift on ground
22 0833 A Co found one bunker 12 ft x 6 ft made of logs and dirt, will destroy, XT694128.
24 0900 A Co blowing one tunnel 5 ft long XT697127.
25 0907 A Co reports finding many old tunnels, destroying as many as they can.
26 0925 A Co reports finding a 4-man bunker at XT697124, 4 ft x 8 ft.  Will destroy.
29 1020 A Co reports finding 2 old tunnels at coord XT698113, will destroy.
30 1020 404th PFF was burning brush at coord XT702103 when one mine was detonated, neg casualties.
31 1030 Recon reports still 25 meters from hook-up point, the M-88 Retriever has one track off, are trying to repair.
32 1035 A Co reports finding 2 bomb shelters at coord XT698113.  Will destroy.
34 1105 A Co has 3-5 crocks and VC papers and one tunnel 10 ft long which was destroyed. Papers will be brought back.
37 1135 Recon reports the M-88 is no good.  Have another Retriever on way to their location.  If they have to stay over will need 144 rations and water.
40 1240 Recon states itwill be about 2-3 hours to pull track out of canal.
43 1530 C-36 elements found a CS Riot type dud 50 meters in front of bunker at new Laterite pit, were advised to blow dud.
44 1540 Resupply of Recon element completed.
63 2148 B Co mortar platoon reports round fell short between 81 mortar position and the bunker line.  Bunker line notified, Bde sending EOD team.
64 2148 Bunker 16 reports 6 figures moving west from XT666164. Bridge was notified.  Radar shows no movement.
67 2230 A Co reports 81mm short round between their position and the 106 bunker, the EOD team will remove it in the morning with the one from B Co.

C/4/9 patrol RATTLER apprehended 25 persons in an oxcart at their ambush loc vic XS742971.  Searched for weapons, etc, found none, released them.  2 old men, rest were women and children.  Patrol relocated. XS742973.

From G-3:  The Division flag will go forward at 240900.  Rear will become Tropic 65 Zulu.

19 0904 A/2/14 located numerous tunnels vic XT697127, will destroy them.
25 1021 ARVN element in blocking position vic XT702103, detonated 1 AT mine while burning grass.  Neg casualties.
26 1030 2/14 Recon reports VTR M88 damaged track while attempting recovery of APC.  Repairs being made.
30 1115 C/4/9 found 10 bunkers vic XS659900 and 1 bunker vic XS673904.  At 1035 fresh VC tracks were spotted.  At 1050 hrs same unit found 1 Chicom MG, 1 pistol belt and 1 PRC-10 radio.  At 1100 hrs same unit found 1 weapon and some medical supplies vic XS673904.
36 1340 C/4/9 sustained 1 WIA vic XS667911, AP mine.
41 1700 C/4/9 destroyed 1 bunker vic XS673904, found one Chicom CBN, 1 pistol belt, 1 PRC-10 radio.  At 1330 C/4/9 found vic XS658900 1 PRC-10, 1 M-1, 2 Chicom CBN, 1 Russian CBN, 1 helicrafter radio, 30 lbs clothes, 1 car belt, 5 gas masks, 1 PRC-10 battery, 1 rucksack, 2 entrenching tools, 2 pistol belts, 1 plastic document pouch, 3 grenade bags, 1 leather pouch, 3 cargo pouches, 2 rifle grenade bags, 1 squad stove, 15 lbs documents, 15 lbs medical supplies, 12 grenades, 5 electric blasting caps, 7.62 ammo 136 rounds and 21 clips; AK-47 242 rounds and 11 clips; US CBN 30 Cal 24 rounds; pistol 45 Cal 11 rounds; M-1 30 Cal 46 rounds and 23 clips; BAR 5 clips; 1 flashlight, 14 batteries, 1 Chicom claymore.
44 1845 Recon 2/14 will stay with the APC vic XT466183 overnight.
46 1945 One M-88 VTR will depart at first light for Trang Bang to aid in recovery of APC vic XT466183.
49 2025 65th Engr will supply C/2/14 with two boats on 26 Mar 67.
51 2055 B/2/14 firing H&I fire with 81mm had one short round between Co area and bunkers.  EOD has been called in.
53 2110 Div Arty and radar observed moving persons at XT655184.  Also at 1940 hrs Div Arty observed a vehicle or oxcart at XT629168.  Neg results.
56 2156 B/4/9 patrol GOBI found a number of bunkers and trenches at ambush site XS700979, changed position to XS709979.
63 2400 SUMMARY:  Opns ALA MOANA and MAKALAPA and security opns vic Cu Chi base continued.  The 4/9 Inf conducted airmobile assault on BUDDY S&D opn vic XS6691, neg contact.  2/14 Inf continued security opns vic Cu Chi base and conducted a Co airmobile assault and BUDDY S&*D vic XT6912, neg contact.  4/23 remains 25th Inf Div reserve.  6 air strikes were flown in support of 1st Bde.
PLANS SUMMARY:  4/9 Inf Bn will continue Co base security and night ambush patrolling.  2/14 Inf Bn will continue security opns vic Cu Chi base and provide rifle element of Div base reaction force.  4/23 remains Div reserve.

Senator Byrd, Virginia, arrived this HQ and was met by Col Conaty.  They departed immediately for 2/14 Inf, for noon meal.
