Recon still waiting for M-88, cannot do anything more until it arrives.  [So why didn't 4/23 APC crew have to stay and dig their own track out of the canal - they drove it in! ]

21 1025 Recon states it will be approx the middle of the afternoon before they can retrieve the vehicle if the cable does not break.  M-88 has arrived.
22 1125 Recon reports that have the downed M-88 on flat ground and are working on getting the track back on.
26 1347 Recon reports they have begun pulling the track out at 1347 hours.
27 1420 Recon reports track is half-way out.  One chain broke but was replaced, Recon thinks they will have it out soon.
28 1500 Recon reports rear of track up on bank.  Winch on M-88 broke, are using another one.
38 1850 Recon reports that resupply is completed.
42 1905 A Co patrol 1 found a VC booby-trap on the route out, marked it and continued to ambush location.
50 2100 A Co patrol 1 received 2 incoming enemy rounds, either mortar or rifle grenades, no casualties.
51 2125 A Co patrol 1 correction - received no incoming rounds, one man blew a claymore.

B/4/9 patrol GOBI requested to stay in position until daylight to check bunkers and trenches found in their ambush site.

12 0725 4/9 requested dustoff for 3 patients, 1 with broken ankle, 2 with high fevers.
15 1012 B/4/9 patrol located 12 bunkers 3 ft x 5 ft, recently occupied, vic SW704978.  Blown in place.
18 1027 B/4/9 located 15 bunkers, 14 were  2 ft x 2 ft, 1 CP bunker 4 ft x 4 ft, vic XS701979.  Appeared in good condition, recently used.  Destroyed.
19 1150 A/4/23 1st platoon track hit a mine at XS661928.  Being repaired.  No casualties.
20 1155 4/9 wire line to District Advisor was found cut in 5 places, last call made at 0600 hrs, commo lost at 0825.  Has been repaired.
22 1643 A/4/9 had 1 enemy wounded by friendly Arty round XS705930.  Dustoff by C&C.
24 1820 FAC with 4/9 reports seeing trenches 2 ft long pointing towards TSN.  They looked like they may have VC rockets in them.  Scrambling gunships.  6 trenches at XS763911, XS758920.
26 1920 1st Bde VR destroyed one sampan vic XS627885 with Arty.
37 2400 SUMMARY:  Opns ALA MOANA and MAKALAPA and security opns vic Cu Chi base continued.  The 4/9 Inf conducted security opns, saturation patrolling and a mechanized platoon S&D vic XS6791, neg contact.  The 2/14 Inf continued security opns and ambush patrolling vic Cu Chi base.
PLANS SUMMARY:  4/9 Inf Bn will continue saturation patrolling vic Co base and conduct Bn seal and search vic XS710940 commencing at 260300 Mar 67.  2/14 Inf Bn cintinue security opns vic Cu Chi base and provide rifle element of Div base reaction force.  4/23 Inf Bn continue as Division reserve.
