From Bde:  1 VC Bn overran 2 ARVN Co at Phouc Hiep

6 0325 C Co has been alerted to stand to.
7 0345 HHC will relieve C Co on the bunker line, bunkers 1,2,3,5,6 ASAP.  B Co will replace C Co in Laterite pit.
11 0433 C Co has departed base camp.
12 0450 B Co is to supply a reinforced squad to check out digging at first light vic coord 642174.
14 0509 Col Gillis instructed A Co to move out now on original plan ASAP.
20 0610 B Co reports Eagle flight is in position, standing by at 0740 hrs.
22 0820 A Co reports finding a T-shape tunnel system and bunkers, cooking utensils at vic XT626216, area believed to be used as a VC base camp in the last week or so.  Also a 105mm dud was blown in place.
23 0840 S3/2/14 will be airborne checking out 15 civilians 400 meters in front of 2/14 bunker line.
24 0845 A Co reports finding a booby-trap Chicom 82mm mortar round in a tree at vic XT626216, round will be blown in place.
25 0850 C Co was released from their mission and have closed base camp as of 0850 hrs.
27 0930 A Co requests to have resupply at 1400 hrs today.
28 1000 S3 informed Recon platoon of enemy movement observed by Ann Margaret vic XT667175.
29 1010 Recon platoon have recovered their 3/4 ton vehicle from Muo Hole.  Recon is now in process of recovering 2/14th wrecker which is stuck in rice paddy.
31 1040 A Co reports finding three 16 ft long tunnels in OBJ 2 vic XT638220, tunnels were explored with neg results, then destroyed.
33 1105 2/25th Inf observation tower spotted 25 VC at vic XT604194.
34 1115 A Co reports completing search of OBJ 2.  Found 1 Chicom hand grenade, 6 Chicom rifle grenades, 1 US bayonet, 40 lbs rice, 1 large chicken and one hot meal, items located vic XT638220 in a bunker 12 ft x 10 ft made of mud, can house approx 7-10 men.
35 1155 Recon platoon closed Ann Margaret, has recovered both the stuck wrecker and 3/4 ton vehicles.
37 1210 A Co reports finding firing site location fo a 75mm recoilless rifle (Chinese type) with approx 7 expended rounds at vic XT635207.
38 1215 A Co reports blowing two anti-tank mines (Chicom type) vic XT635207.
40 1245 A Co reports finding stakes and spikes, enough for at least 50 punji pits.  Destroyed.
41 1300 A Co requested dustoff for two US heat casualties having cramps.  LZ secure, will be marked by smoke.  XT633203.
45 1400 Outpost Ann Margaret spotted approx 40 personnel, some wearing black, others not.  Loc XT678163.  Eight personnel spotted by creek.
52 1830 A Co requests dustoff for 1 WIA, serious, from booby-trap.  LZ secured at XT628190.
54 1900 C Co picked up 2 civilian detainees at new sanitary fill XT627158, were taken to POW compound.
64 1830 A Co found 3 homemade grenade booby-traps with trip wires at XT628190, will blow in place.
66 1840 A Co reports VC threw hand grenade over hedge towards elements securing LZ for dustoff, A 36 took chase for approx 50 meters.  Could not locate VC.
67 2110 A Co reports 2 105mm duds laying side by side, appeared to be stored for possible booby-trap.  Blown in place.

1.  Operational Summary,
   a.  2/14 Inf continues to defend it sector.  Three squad and three platoon size ambush patrols were maintained during the hours of darkness.  One company continued to conduct local patrolling in vic AO SAW and the patrol terminated at 020728H. In addition the battalion established platoon size bases in the vicinity of the old and new laterite pits and secured the bridge to OP Ann Margaret with one reinforced squad.  One reinforced squad maintained OP Ann Margaret and an ASCC was continued at Cu Chi District Headquarters to exploit local intelligence.  Also one company maintained responsibility for base reaction company.
