Road to Ben Luc cleared

59 0900 A & B Co started moving at 0830
60 0910 51st ARVN requests dustoff for 1 litter patient with leg wound from booby-trap vic 578838
61 0925 A Co reports finding 1 Chicom rifle, 1 30 Cal machine gun complete, 12 75mm recoilless rifle rounds, 1400 rounds of linked 30 Cal ammo new, will blow ammo in place xs632866.
63 0945 Gen. Tillson and Col Conaty arrived this location.
65 1145 B Co reports having a heat casualty (serious), will be dusted of by C&C ship
68 1230 B Co found 3 bunkers and 2 hooches at canal of MMM, XS641862.
69 1340 PROUD UPLAND hit mine and has 7 WIA, 3 litter and possibly 4 to be evacuated.  XS585839.  Second mine was hit at XS585839.  5 men WIA, all must be evacuated.
70 1640 B Co reports finding 4 booby-traps (hand grenade type) XS647873, destroyed.
71 1640 B Co found four bags of rice, 200 lb in each bag, coord XS647873, will evac.

1.  Operational Summary:

  a.  General:  2/14th Inf continued to defend in sector at the forward base camp vic Ben Luc.  Five LP's were conducted during the hours of darkness and security was maintained throughout the perimeter.  2/14th Inf (-) continued their advance adjacent to canal systems KKK to RRR in vic XS6486 and XS6586, one reinforced squad screened forward of the main body to detect and provide early warning of enemy ambushes.  At approximately 161100H, Co B was heli-lifted to vic XS638871 to replace Co C in generally same location.  Co B continued to S&D in sector and Co C was returned to base camp.  Two 105 howitzer batteries and the Heavy Mortar Platoon continued to fire in direct support of the battalion's operation.  In addition, the Engr and Recon Platoons cleared the road from the forward base camp to Ben Luc.  Also the base camp received 1 round of recoilless rifle fire at 152045H, no casualties were sustained.
