Summary:  At 0240 this morning a nighthawk aircraft developed mechanical difficulties and went down northwest of Hunsley.  Crew was extracted within 20 minutes and a platoon of Co D was airlifted from their AP site to secure the aircraft until it could be extracted after dawn.  Co's A, B & D conducted heliborne operations today.  Co A made CA south of Hunsley and moved into the patrol base, reconned ambush patrol sites for 3 platoon-size ambush patrols tonight.  B Co made CA south of Bau Tron - during sweep 2 booby-traps were tripped resulting in 1 KIA, 5 WIA.  C Co took control of Venice East and Bau Dieu tower and conducted recon mission north of Trung Lap, found 3 booby-traps.  D Co made CA north of Hunsley.  CRIP conducted Eagle Eye operations.  B Co sent out on joint US/ARVN night combat patrol which was pulled in by ARVN's after a man accidentally shot himself.  Around midnight Patton and Dong Tien reported possible incoming mortars impacting outside the wire.  Counter-mortar fire was employed.
