1. Journal Summary.
a. 2/14th Infantry Golden Dragons, 25th Infantry Division with 10 Company 3/7th ARVN and an element from the 554th Engineers continued Operation BARKING SANDS. A & B Companies S&D to vic XT 805089. C Company and 10 Company S&D to vic XT 807084. Charlie Company had 5 WIA's due to rifle grenades at XT 814079. All of them were dusted off. The RAG boats got one (1) VC body count at XT 815087. They had received automatic weapons fire and recoilless rifle fire. They had one (1) slight WIA. The following was found and destroyed or evacuated:
5 mud & log bunkers
1 bunker reinforced with cement (10' x 10' x 10')
36 2-man bunkers
2 booby traps (XT 794092)
Recon and tanks continued to secure Route Blue. Recon detained 108 persons, later releasing all of them. Engineers continued to work in the pit area and on the road.
b. Journal Forecast: A & C Companies will return to CU CHI and work on the bunker line and get paid. B Company will return to SCARLET and prepare for night patrols. Recon and tanks will secure Route Blue. Engineers will continue to work in the pit area and along Route Blue.
